Commissioning
The PIMD Commissioning group is part of the Projects and Infrastructure Modernization Division (PIMD) at Berkeley Lab. Commissioning is an important part of most projects at Berkeley Lab, it is a systematic process of ensuring a building performs in accordance with design intent, contract documents and the owner’s project requirements (OPR).Construction Project Management
The PIMD Construction Project Managment group carries out design and construction of new facilities and renovations and modifications, alterations and improvements, remediation, and reconstruction activities in existing facilities, in conformance with all applicable building and life safety codes. Our mission is to provide quality turnkey construction project services to enable world class science programs at Berkeley Lab.Cost Estimating
The PIMD Cost Estimating group consists of seven cost estimating professionals. All members are multi-disciplined estimators, with each having focused knowledge of specific construction divisions. The group provides cost estimates for LBNL Capital Asset Projects, Science-based Infrastructure modifications & alterations, facility improvements, deferred maintenance work and D & D projects based on the level of design maturity.Deactivation & Decommissioning
The PIMD Deactivation & Decommissioning (D&D) group is responsible for placing a formerly active facility in a safe and stable condition until it can be decommissioned or dismantled, in accordance with DOE requirements.Electrical
The PIMD Electrical group makes sure electrical work is done safely and according to lab and national electrical standards. They support lab projects managed by PIMD by providing guidance and training to upgrade, replace, and install electrical infrastructure. They also collaborate with EHS and Facilities divisions to manage electrical outages essential to safely complete projects.PIMD Advisory Committee
The PIMD Advisory Committee convenes monthly to review and make recommendations on defined Stage Gates for Threshold 3 & 4 projects.PIMD Safety Council
The PIMD Safety Council meets the 1st Thursday of every month to share and examine health-related activities. This forum is designed to advance the resolution of issues and contribute to a safe and healthy work environment.Project Planning
The PIMD Project Planning group is a collection of early-career to very experienced Project Managers and Project Directors that oversee a portfolio of projects throughout the Lab for various customers and clients.Quality Assurance
The PIMD Quality Assurance (QA) group is the point of contact for quality assurance project and program needs. It is responsible for monitoring and assessing the Projects & Infrastructure Modernization Division (PIMD) processes and practices, proposing measures for correction or improvement, aiding PIMD in achieving its objectives, and ensuring PIMD adheres to its policies and procedures and meets the established standards of Berkeley Lab and the Department of Energy (DOE).Scientific Equipment Installation Team
The Scientific Equipment Installation (SEI) Team is a partnership between the Projects & Infrastructure Modernization Division (PIMD) and the Facilities Division to efficiently assess, plan, and execute scientific equipment installations and projects in support of the research divisions.
