Quality Assurance

The Quality Assurance (QA) Group is the point of contact for PIMD quality assurance project and program needs. It is responsible for monitoring and assessing the Projects & Infrastructure Modernization Division (PIMD) processes and practices, proposing measures for correction or improvement, aiding PIMD in achieving its objectives, and ensuring PIMD adheres to its policies and procedures and meets the established standards of Berkeley Lab and the Department of Energy (DOE).

Assurance management, issues management, and performance metrics are the main areas of support provided by the QA Group in PIMD:

Assurance Management

• Provide support to PIMD in ensuring compliance with the LBNL Quality Management System. PIMD Quality Management Plan describes how PIMD ensures the quality of its services meets Berkeley Lab and DOE standards, and stakeholder requirements.
• Provide quality assurance support for PIMD projects.
• Conduct periodic assessments and effectiveness reviews involving PIMD and partnering division staff.
• Interface with OIAI for DOE Contract Requirements Management and Policy Management.

Issue Management

• Provide guidance to PIMD staff, in the event of an incident, following PIMD Incident Reporting work instruction, and participate or lead in investigations and causal analysis.
• Develop and assist in implementing corrective action plans, and interface with Berkeley Lab Corrective Actions Tracking System.
• Interface with the DOE Occurrence Reporting and Processing System (ORPS) and assist with developing and completing ORPS reports for PIMD.
• Conduct or participate in incident investigations as needed.

Performance Metrics

• Collaboratively design, develop, and monitor performance metrics and data visualizations following the PIMD Metric Framework to aid PIMD management and teams in decision-making related to PIMD performance.
• Performance Metrics and Data Analytics: Access PIMD published dashboards, view dashboard statuses, and for PIMD personnel to request assistance with data management, metrics, or dashboard creation.
